The Journal is now using electronic submission and review of articles almost exclusively. Arrangements for hard-copy submissions can be made with the Editor.

Manuscript Guidelines

Authors are strongly encouraged to submit an electronic version of the article prepared using the MS Word Author Template; the electronic version will be used in the review process. Electronic submissions will be accepted in PDF or MS-Word formats. Papers should be submitted as a single electronic document with figures and tables imbedded in the file at the end of the document, and with indications in the body of the text where figures and tables should be located. Use Times New Roman font, with the exception of Greek symbols. Manuscripts should be double–spaced on paper 215 x 280 mm (8.5 x 11 in) with margins of 40 mm (1.5 in). Page and line numbering should be used.

Authors should bear in mind that figures may be reduced to fit the Journal page, and take particular care to ensure that figure symbols, line types, and lettering can be resolved at publication size. Colour to gray scale conversion should be done before submission. It is important to vary line types as shades of gray/black are difficult to distinguish. Colour figures require special arrangements with the Editor.

When accepted for publication, electronic files of figures will be required in current versions of Excel, EPS or TIF format. For publication, all figures must be in grayscale and must not include gradient or textured fills. A resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch) is required for figures in EPS or TIF format.

Use the metric system (SI) throughout.

An abstract in both English and French is required.

Footnotes should be used only to give the author’s title, place of employment, city, province and postal code. Footnotes should not be used in the text.

Mathematical expressions must be numbered consecutively with the number (in parentheses) right justified.

References in the text should be cited by author and date: for example, Smith (2007) or (Smith, 2007) depending on sentence construction. A complete alphabetical list of references cited must be included at the end of the manuscript using the Chicago 15th B Style (MS Word Author Template and recent issues of the Journal for the appropriate style).

Review and Revision of Manuscripts

Authors will be provided with copies of the reviewers’ comments and the Editor’s recommendation for revision of the manuscript. Authors will then provide a copy of the revised manuscript, a marked copy indicating changes to the manuscript, and a document indicating how they have addressed reviewer comments.

Galley Proofs

Galley Proofs will be provided to the author for the correction of printing errors. Changes in substance will not be accepted. The proof should be returned to the Editor within one week of receipt.

Copyrighted Material and Transfer of Copyright

If a manuscript contains material that is protected by copyright, the author must identify this material and provide written permission from the copyright holder for its reproduction. Prior to publication of a manuscript, authors must sign a copyright transfer form. The form will be included with the Galley Proofs.

Offprints

The Journal does not provide free offprints. Offprints may be ordered directly from the Journal Office. Information on ordering offprints will be included with the Galley Proofs.

Page Charges

The Canadian Water Resources Journal charges $40 (plus GST/HST) per page for published manuscripts. Charges will be billed directly to the corresponding author.
