Instructions for Authors
Manuscripts submitted for publication should be accompanied by a statement that they have not been published in a journal or proceedings, or submitted for possible publication elsewhere. Authors should also state why they feel the information being presented would be of interest to readers of the Canadian Water Resources Journal. The full names of the authors and their professional affiliations should be given. All manuscripts will be reviewed by at least two qualified referees. Manuscripts should be prepared according to the following instructions and an original and three copies of the manuscript should be sent to:
Donald H. Burn, P.Eng. Professor, Department of Civil Engineering University of Waterloo 200 University Avenue West Waterloo, Ontario N2L 3G1 Phone: (519) 888-4567, Ext. 3338 Fax: (519) 888-6197 Email: dhburn@civmail.uwaterloo.ca
The Journal is experimenting with electronic submission and review of articles. As such, authors may additionally submit an electronic version of the article, which will be used in the review process, if possible. Electronic submissions will be accepted in PDF or MS-Word formats.
Manuscripts
All manuscripts must be prepared using current versions of MS-Word or WordPerfect. Please use Times font, with the exception of greek symbols. The manuscripts should be double–spaced on one side of the paper on paper 215 x 280 mm (8.5 x 11 in) with margins of 40 mm (1.5 in). Each page should be numbered. Figures (maps, diagrams, photographs) and tables should appear on separate pages, and the figure or the table number should be entered in the margin of the text to indicate where each should appear. Manuscripts should not normally exceed 5,000 words in length.
Electronic files of figures will be accepted in current versions of Excel, EPS or TIF format. All figures must be in grayscale and must not include gradient or textured fills. A resolution of 300 dpi (dots per inch) is required for figures in EPS or TIF format. The figures must be provided as separate files from the manuscript file (i.e., not be embedded in the text file). Each figure file must be saved with the surname of first author and figure number (i.e., BurnFig1). Please supply electronic images on a cd along with a laser print or photocopy of the image. If photographs are included they should be high quality black and white prints. Photographs should be clearly marked on the back with the surname of the first author and figure number, e.g., Burn Fig1. Xeroxed figures will not be accepted for publication. Authors should bear in mind that figures may be reduced to fit the Journal page.
