Canada Launches Online Water Catalogue!
Branch or Affiliate : National
Tuesday, October 25, 2011
Is your organization interested in Canadian data and information on water, such as groundwater and surface water quality/quantity, drinking water, water policy and legislation, and best management practices?
On July 22nd, the Council of the Federation (Premiers) announced the launch of
Canada’s Water Info Stream
and
Inforoutecanadienne de l’eau
, an online catalogue featuring a basic listing of major government water resources from across Canada. The catalogue is organized by jurisdiction and is part of a multi-phase project to improve the dissemination of and access to water data and information, and to better integrate this information across provinces, territories and sectors.
We want to hear your feedback!
As we enter the next phase of this initiative, we’d like to hear your thoughts on the value and usefulness of the catalogue, and the types of features you would like to see in the near future.
We also invite you to add a link to the catalogue from your organization’s website and/or your email signature block, should you wish to do so.
Our hope is that, as a starting point, the catalogue will act as a communications tool to help spread the word to researchers, policy makers, and the public about water data and information relevant to their interests and needs, both locally and nationally.
The Information Sharing Working Group, including government representatives from 11 jurisdictions, will be soliciting feedback from users and working on future enhancements over the course of the next year. Your feedback will be considered in the year-end evaluation of the catalogue, scheduled for summer 2012. For more details on the history, scope and phases of this initiative, please see the attached Questions and Answers.
This initiative is being spearheaded by the
Council of the Federation
, Premiers from across Canada tasked with discussing issues related to Canadian intergovernmental relations. For more information on Premiers’ commitments to water, read the
Water Charter
and the
recent press release

Tuesday, May 04, 2010
From March 2 – 11, 2010 at the University of Calgary’s Biogeoscience Institute’s Barrier Lake Station in the Kananaskis Valley, the Canadian Society for Hydrological Sciences in partnership with the University of Saskatchewan and offered an intensive short course version of Geography 827, Principles of Hydrology. Subjects such as precipitation, interception, snow accumulation, snowmelt, evapotranspiration, infiltration, groundwater, streamflow, and river hydraulics were taught by a selection of the best hydrologists in Canada. These processes were framed within the context of distinctly Canadian landscape features such as glaciers, peatlands and seasonally frozen ground. State of the art statistical methodologies were presented. CSHS:Announcement to Membership
Branch or Affiliate : CSHS
Friday, August 21, 2009
The Canadian Society for Hydrological Sciences (CSHS) sees its niche among Canada’s water associations as being the primary facilitator for the conveyance of state of the art hydrological science and information to the practicing hydrology community. We, i.e. the CSHS executive, have been busy the last few years, and we would like to thank all members for their support. After a very successful conference in Québec City in June 2009, we thought it would be good to take this opportunity to inform the membership of some of the products and activities they have supported.
