Vancouver Chapter
Description
The Vancouver chapter was founded in 2005 by a diverse group of water
enthusiasts with backgrounds ranging from law and policy to science and
engineering. Years after its inception the group strives to provide engagement
people interested in all aspects of water resources. The main goal of the
group is to promote awareness of Canadian and international water resource
management through education and interdisciplinary collaboration. We achieve
this goal by hosting seminars and workshops as well as networking events
amongst students and professionals.
If you are interested in becoming involved with the group as a core member or
just want to receive emails about events we host please contact us! Core
members generally meet once a month to discuss chapter initiatives and organize
events. If you have an idea for an event or seminar topic, we are always
interested in hearing suggestions for topics and speakers.

Join us in the search of the Coolest Water Project of 2011 – an evening of networking and bragging with Vancouver’s water professionals.
Overview:
The Coolest Water Project is a competition in search of the *Coolest* water related project of 2011. Water professionals in the private and public sector are invited to present their projects in a fun and casual atmosphere to the SYP, who will in turn get to judge the winning project. The event is planned in conjunction with World Water Day, March 22, 2011 and will take place at Thea’s Louge in Thea Koerner House Graduate Student Center at UBC campus starting at 6pm.
Further information for professionals:
Are you working on the coolest water project of 2011?
Calling all water professionals! The SYP is looking for the coolest water-related project of 2011 – do you think you have it? Want bragging rights amongst your peers? Want to impress upcoming science, engineering, planning, and policy graduates?
Then present your project at the 1st annual Coolest Water Project competition on March 22, 2011! Your project can be any water related project involving flood forecasting, channel restoration, policy, groundwater, basin studies, remediation projects, governance, planning, environmental impact, ecology, etc. It doesn’t have to be a physical design, it simply has to be interesting. Your audience (and judges) will be the members and guests of the Canadian Water Resource Association – Students and Young Professionals (CWRA-SYP). This will be an evening of networking, mingling and most importantly, bragging. It will be a great opportunity to meet with potential new hires and summer students.
The fine print: The competition is open to projects started, worked on, or completed in the past 12 months. Please submit a brief project summary (<250 words) to cwra.syp.van@gmail.com for consideration in the competition. Accepted projects will be given approximately 10 minutes to present followed by a few minutes for questions. Poster presentations can also be accommodated (and can be sent in lieu of a project summary). Presentations will take place on March 22, 2011 at the UBC campus starting at 6 pm. Presentations used at previous conferences and awards competitions are acceptable. Final details will be sent upon receipt and confirmation of your project. APPLICATIONS ARE DUE MARCH 14, 2011.
We are also looking for sponsors for this event. If your company is interested in helping to make this a success please contact as well!
