Edmonton Chapter
Description
The Edmonton SYP Chapter was formed in the summer 2008. The goals of the chapter,
which is based at the University of Alberta, are:
- To promote and strengthen communication among students and young professionals involved
in water management challenges on and off campus.
- To promote networking and create opportunities among students, young professionals,
and professionals involved in water management challenges; and,
- To participate and support different leadership initiatives of the CWRA including
the mentorship program.
The main focus of our chapter is to provide students and young professionals with
a forum for information exchange and learning, and a forum for networking. We will
be meeting once a month to discuss water related issues and plan upcoming events.
The organizing committee has a team leader, facilitator, and the communications
group. We are currently working on activities that will create awareness of the
Edmonton Chapter and provide opportunities for learning and networking within and
outside the University of Alberta.
Many students and young professionals have expressed their interest to be active
members of the SYP Edmonton Chapter. Current membership is about 15, including graduate
students from the departments of Rural Economy, Renewable Resources, School of Engineering,
and young professionals from the World Wildlife Federation (WWF) and Alberta Environment.
